Our living environment has a profound impact on our past, present and future well-being. As the prevailing issue of our environment continues, Streamline Properties is leading the industry in maximizing the use and efficiency of various green technologies in our current and future projects.
Most technology incorporated in Streamline’s buildings is proven long-term systems that simply have not been used in combination to maximize building efficiency and productivity. In our flagship building The Brook and other future projects such as Local on Commercial Drive and Almaval in Point Grey we will continue the use of technologies to optimize the standard of living for homeowners. Some of the technologies used at Streamline include Geothermal Heating, Solar UV Collectors, Heat Recovery Ventilation, and Rain Water Retention Tanks.
Geothermal Heating and Cooling:
The use of Geothermal Energy dates back 10,000 years to indigenous North American tribes, today the use of this natural energy source is much more efficient and dynamic. A Geothermal System lowers the consumer’s dependence on fossil fuels, but provides better inside air quality and more efficient summer cooling. Geothermal energy systems transfer heat and cooling from the ground by either re-circulating subsurface water or using a fluid circulated through a heat exchanger. Streamline has created a highly efficient Geothermal Heating and Cooling System with the combination of an open loop system, heat pump and solar UV collectors.
Solar Thermal UV Collectors:
Solar Thermal UV Collectors are mounted on the roof. The Solar Thermal UV Collectors consist of evacuated tubes that are powered by UV rays; therefore even on a grey overcast day continue to work at high efficiency. The water inside the geothermal radiant tubing runs past the copper ends of the solar UV Collectors and is heated to an average of 200C, the water then flows back into three tanks where it is stored for hot water usage and cooled to the appropriate temperature. Excess water is processed through two additional tanks for cooling and either sent back into the building through the in floor radiant heating system or into the two 40,000 litres holding tanks.
Heat Recovery Ventilation:
As building efficiency is improved through-out with insulation and weather stripping, Streamline buildings are intentionally made more air-tight for heating and cooling. In every Streamline home you will find a Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) unit that offers fresh air, better climate control and energy efficiency. HRV is a ventilation system that employs a counter-flow heat exchanger between the inbound and outbound air flow.
Fresh air is delivered to each room though out the home by a heating ductwork system while stale, moist air exhausts outside.
Provides quiet, comfortable and continuous fresh air year-round.
Prevent stuffiness, odor’s, mold and condensation problems.
Provides high efficiency particle filtering.
Recycled Water Storage Cisterns
Rain Water And Groundwater Recycling Systems:
Rainwater runoff from the roof is harvested into a collection tank. The excess groundwater from the geothermal system is also collected in two 40,000 liter collection tanks before being filtered twice through our in house filtration system. The water will then be used to irrigate the landscaping, flush your toilets, and wash your clothes. The use of the recycled water will reduce your reliance on municipal potable water by upwards of 80%.
LEED® – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design –
What is is and why does it matter?
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED®) is the certification created by the United States Green Building Council adapted for Canada by the Canada Green Building Council; it provides a set of standards for environmentally sustainable construction. Streamline Properties buildings use key resources more efficiently to build healthier working and living environments, which contribute to higher productivity and improved health and comfort.

When the Canada Green Building Council launched its LEED® certification process in April 2005, it started with 112 applications from across the country. Those applications have doubled in the last two years. British Columbia leads the country with 37 LEED® certified buildings and boasts 1 of only 8 platinum buildings in all of Canada.
